Yoga means to join or yoke to the infinite consciousness of the creator. Breath-work exercises are geared to connect you to your inner power, strength, and fortitude. A conscious breath yields a conscious and connected self. Paired with movement, posture and stretch, the circulatory body and nervous systems engage. Most of the body and breath work will then set the stage for the meditation practice which effectively balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems to releases the feel good hormones like Dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, and oxytocin. Many ascetics point out this reference of the “nectar” that is secreted from the higher glands, hypothalamus and pituitary, is in fact the pathways of greater compassion, wisdom, and bliss expanding within the successful Yogi or Yogini.
